Two Fort Campbell Soldiers to be Laid to Rest on November 23

FRANKFORT, KY – Governor Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in honor of two Fort Campbell soldiers who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.


According to the Department of Defense, Spc. David C. Lutes, 28, of Frostburg, Md., died November 11th in Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, on November 8. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. Funeral services for Spc. Lutes will be held on November 22nd at 10 a.m. Eastern time at St. Mary’s Church in Bolivar, N.Y. Burial services will be on November 23rd at 11 a.m. Eastern time at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bolivar, N.Y.

According to the Department of Defense, Cpl. Jacob R. Carver, 20, of Freeman, Mo. died November 13th in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, when an insurgent suicide bomber detonated a vest bomb and struck his unit. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. Funeral services for Cpl. Carver will be held on November 23 at 10 a.m. Central time at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, Mo.

Governor Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on November 23rd and encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
