What a Great Night of Football - Madisonville versus Hopkinsville

HOPKINS COUNTY, KY - Whether you were a Hopkinsville fan or a Madisonville fan, this was a great Friday night of football.

It was a lovely fall evening and both teams gave it all they had. Unfortunately in the game of football, one team has to win and one team  has to lose. For the Madisonville football supporters, they ended up going home with a big smile on their faces as they won the game 28 to 24. For the Hopkinsville supporters, though they did lose, they can be proud of the effort their team put forth on Friday evening.

It was homecoming night in Madisonville and the Maroons started off the night marching the ball deep into Hopkinsville territory. However, the drive stalled and the Maroons turned the ball over to the Tigers who promptly took the ball down the field on a 44 yard pass and shortly thereafter took it in for the first score of the game. With a successful point PAT, that was all the scoring for the 1st quarter with the Tigers up 7-0.

The second quarter saw the Tigers stretch their lead to 10 points as they scored on a 30 yard field goal making the score 10-0. The Maroons were not to be denied however as between Trey Carr and Iran White turned a 15 play drive and into 7 points. After Carr and White hooked up on a 15 yard pass play and Carr ran for a first down on a 4th and one, Carr took it in on a 5 yard scamper for the Maroon’s first score of the game.  The Maroons made the extra point and went into the locker room at halftime down 10-7.

The second half was a busy half as both teams moved up and down the field. Madisonville started it off first with a 20 yard pass from Trey Carr to Dean Summers. This put Madisonville up 14-10. Hopkinsville came back to score on a 23 yard run as the quarterback ran almost untouched into the end zone. Hopkinsville then went up 17 to 14. Madisonville went back up 21 to 14 on a 1 yard run by Trey Carr.

Early in the 4th quarter, the Maroons fumbled the ball on their own 11 giving the Tigers the ball 11 yards from paydirt. Four plays later, Hopkinsville went in for the score, and taking the lead in the game 24 to 21. The next play was the highlight play of the night as a freshman named Alex Grey for Madisonville North Hopkins took the kickoff and zigged and zagged behind his blockers for a 90 yard touchdown run that would eventually be the winning score of the game. Watch for more exciting plays by this exciting runner in the next few years of Madisonville football. The final score of the game was Madisonville North Hopkins 28 and the Hopkinsville Tigers 24.

This win was a great one for the Maroons as it also helped them win a berth in the district playoffs.  Congratulations also go out to Daniel Goodman and Alexis Lee. They were the homecoming king and queen for the homecoming festivities at Madisonville North Hopkins High School.
