Madisonville Fire Department Reports – 11/19 – 11/22

HOPKINS COUNTY KY - The Madisonville Fire Department reports for November 19 through November 22 to include a vehicle accident on South Main:
On November 19, 2010, at 10:47 p.m., an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for smoke in a house located at 312 North Seminary Street. Upon arrival, Madisonville Police Department was on scene. Arriving fire crews noted light smoke coming from the eaves of a single family dwelling. Engine 17 fire crew entered the structure to investigate and ensure that all occupants were outside. Ladder 2 officer performed a 360 survey while crew placed ventilation fan on "A" side and laddered the gable end of the roof on "B" side. Fire was discovered simultaneously from the roof access inside the structure and from the gable end of the roof. A 150' preconnected hose was deployed from Engine 17 into the structure to a bathroom in the Bravo-Charlie corner of the structure. Power to the structure was disconnected. The light fixture was pulled down with a pike pole and a small fire was extinguished in the ceiling. All the ceiling in the bathroom was overhauled and the thermal imaging camera was used to check for fire extension. None was found. The cause of fire was determined to have started at the light fixture in the bathroom. Electric meter was pulled and Madisonville Power responded to the scene to secure the meter. No further action was taken and all units returned to station at 12:08 a.m.

On November 21, 2010, at 12:34 a.m., an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for a carbon monoxide alarm sounding at 652 S. Ky. Ave. (Pennyrile Park Apts.) Arriving on scene fire crew was advised by occupant residing below Apt. (A7) that a carbon monoxide alarm was sounding in that apartment. Fire crew was unable to get occupant of apartment to respond to the door. Repeated calls to management went unanswered. Access to apartment was made by using ladder to a second story window. Multi-gas meter was used to check for carbon monoxide. All readings with meter were normal. CO2 alarm was disconnected in apartment. Scene was deemed safe and all units returned to station. Fire Prevention office will be instructed to contact the apartment complex Monday.

On November 21, 2010, at 9:09 a.m., a call was received via public service from a homeowner advising that a wall receptacle in their home at 1990 Marty Dr. had what they believed was an electrical short. Homeowner had some concern about heat coming from the wall cavity and asked that a Fire unit respond to the home. Upon the fire crews arrival they found a ground fault receptacle in the master bath that had shorted. Fire crew turned the breaker off to the affected area and removed the receptacle. Firefighters used the thermal imaging camera to check for heat signature within the wall cavity. The wall cavity showed no heat signature on the TIC. Fire crew secured the power supply to the receptacle with wire nuts and electrical tape so power could be turned back on to the master bath. Fire crew advised homeowner to call an electrician to replace the damaged receptacle. The scene was deemed safe and all units returned to station at 9:38 a.m.

On November 21, 2010, at 4:19 p.m., an alarm was received from Central Dispatch for an accident with injuries in front of Dollar Store on South Main. Upon arrival fire crew found 2 vehicle accident with 6 total occupants in. Medical treatment was given until Medical Ambulance Center Service arrived on scene. There was no patient transport or wrecker service required. Madisonville Police Dept. was on scene. Scene was deemed safe all units returned to station at 4:41 p.m.
