Gas Leak Isolates Portion of North Madisonville Area

Madisonville, KY – Five units of the Madisonville Fire Department responded to a report of a gas leak behind the Jerry Lewis Auto Sales and EZ Shop convenience store Monday afternoon.

Asst. Chief John Stewart told iSurf news that construction crews were working behind the former Purdy's Car Center when they hit a gas line that ruptured. The line was in the area where a former dentist office was once located.

Atmos Energy was called in to help contain the leak. Fire crews isolated the area around the car lot and Covenant Community Church for about thirty minutes. Stewart said the 1 inch line was capped by Atmos Personal with the assistance of the fire crews.

After an inspection of the repairs, the area was deemed safe and the area busineses were reopened.
