HOPKINS COUNTY, KY - John Hamilton pled guilty to 2nd Degree Manslaughter in the death of Julia Wooten in Earlington on September 6th of 2009 and 1st Degree Wanton Endangerment for the near miss of another pedestrian who was present with Ms. Wooten.
The recommended sentence for this is 8 years in jail which Commonwealth Attorney David Massamore will ask for jail without probation during his sentence.
Commonwealth Attorney David Massamore stated “I have met with the family on multiple occasions and they fully agree with the pleas and years for sentencing asking for prison time.” David Massamore further stated “This sentence is consistent with most vehicular homicides as the jury struggles with intent. I will recommend to the legislature to change this law and create a specific homicide law that makes it easier to understand the circumstances in vehicular homicides.”
Sentencing will take place at 10:30am on January 3rd in Circuit Court Jim Brantley’s courtroom at which time the family will formally express their desire to Judge Brantley for John Hamilton to serve the entire sentence of 8 years in prison as will David Massamore.
Mr. Hamilton’s defense attorney was Mark Wells who is from Madisonville and resides in Princeton Kentucky.
