Little Sturgis Biker Rally—Cancelled?

KY—Since the inaugural Poker Run in 1993, the now legendary Little Sturgis Bike Rally held annually in Union County, KY has attracted thousands of motorcycle riders from all over the country and has raised over $2 million for charities.

Yet, as indicated by the event’s official website (www.littlesturgisrally.net), this year’s Rally has been cancelled for unexplained reasons.

Though iSurf News has attempted to contact Sturgis, Kentucky officials and council members in regards to why this decision was made, we have yet to acquire any solid information.

However, some speculation suggests that the rally may never be held again. The possible reason? Though the Rally does bring a large, upward flux in revenue for local business owners in Sturgis and surrounding areas, some say the comparatively low attendance of 8,000 in 2010 failed to justify the expense of organizing the event.

The highest attendance for the Little Sturgis Rally in a single year was 22,000 and the 2011 Sturgis Rally was scheduled for July 14-17. This would have been the 19th year for the event.

Though the reasoning behind the cancellation is unclear as of this report, look to iSurf News for the latest updates as they become available.
