HOPKINS COUNTY, KY - Thomas Allen (Mitch) Mitchell, 79, of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
He was born May 4, 1931, in Barbourville, KY, to the late John and Bertha Howard Mitchell.
He graduated from Barbourville High School in 1949, attended Union College and graduated from the University of Kentucky Law School in 1955. He moved to Madisonville in 1957 and joined Gordon and Gordon Law Firm and later co-founded Mills, Spain & Mitchell. Other partners later were Joiner, Hunt, Ferreri, Donan, Turner and the Lowthers. He practiced law for 35 years and was a member of the Bar Association. He was a member of Barbourville First Christian Church, Rotary Club, Lawyers Helping Lawyers and sang in the Madisonville Barbershop Quartet.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Mitchell of Madisonville; two sons, Greg H. Mitchell of Lexington, KY and Steve (Doris) Mitchell of Barbourville; stepson, Steve (Ginger) Johnson of Madisonville; one brother, Julian (Peggy) Mitchell of Danville, KY; grandchildren, Kerri (Bo) Calloway of Knoxville, TN, Andrew Mitchell of Lexington, Austin Mitchell and Tanner Mitchell both of Dunedin, FL; step granddaughter, Casey Johnson of Richmond, KY.
Memorial service will be 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Pat Wilson officiating.
A time of gathering with the Mitchell Family will be Tuesday, November 16, 2010, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home.
The graveside service will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 26, 2010, at Barbourville City Cemetery in Barbourville, KY.
Memorial donations may be made to the Serenity House. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
