US—Aroldis Chapman, a rookie pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, made baseball history this past Friday night, September 24th, by pitching the fastest pitch ever recorded in a MLB game.
According to reports from MLB officials, the pitch was clocked on the radar at a blazing speed of 105 mph.
Beginning his career in the minor leagues with the Triple-A Louisville Bats, Chapman was entered the MLB ranks with a 9-6 record and an ERA of 3.57. In addition, Chapman has thrown 25 pitches over 100 mph. Chapman also holds two of the three fastest pitches in Baseball history. Holding it down between Chapman’s first (105mph) and third (104mph) spots is Detroit relief pitcher, Joel Zumaya, for his pitch of 104.8 mph
Chapman’s historical pitch wasn’t enough to put the Reds in the lead, though, and in the end, the Padres won the game 4-3.
