MADISONVILLE, KY – The Madisonville Rotary Club honored Bill “Shoes” Stafford for his 25 years service as a referee for the Madisonville Rotary Club Youth Football program.
Presenting Stafford with the award was James Barritt, commissioner of the 2010 program; “Bill Stafford has been a role model for the thousands of youth that have played in this program. He loves the sport and loves to work with the kids and coaches. It is a tough job he does and he is always up to the task. He works very hard to teach our players the proper way to play. You can tell a person the rules; but, when your team gets penalized for your mistake, you learn very quickly.”
During those 25 years, Stafford says that he has made mistakes and has faced the wrath of many coaches and parents. But, “usually I’m right” he says with a twinkle in his eye.
Coaches, players, parents and the members of the Madisonville Rotary Club offer sincere thanks to Bill “Shoes” Stafford for his 25 years of service and counting.
