Hopkins County, KY - The Madisonville North Hopkins maroons beat the Owensboro Red Devils in almost every category but the most important one as they lost in a tight game by a score of 24-22.
It was a real tough defeat for the Maroons as this game was the one that decided which whether the Maroons played they had home field advantage for the first playoff game. After losing last night, the Maroons will be traveling to Bowling Green Ky, for their first district playoff game.
Owensboro started off the night by scoring a touchdown on a 54 yard scamper by Ryan Bowling. Not to be outdone by Owensboro, the Maroons scored on a 5 yard pass connection between Trey Carr and Cameron Tandy. Owensboro scored on both a touchdown and a 2 point conversion on the next possession with on a 68 yard run by running back Kendall Tinsley. The Maroons ended the scoring for the first period also with a touchdown and 2 point conversion on a 32 yard run by Cameron Tandy and the 2 point conversion by Trey Carr.
The second quarter was also close with Owensboro taking a 3 point lead on a 34 yard field goal. As the second quarter was closing, the Maroons scored on a 28 yard hookup again between Tandy and Carr. Both teams went into the locker room at half time up 22 to 18.
The third quarter saw the Maroons chew up a lot of time but unfortunately, they were unable to put the ball into the end zone. Just after the fourth quarter started, Owensboro was able to get a little closer as they connected on a 28 yard field goal. After the field goal, Madisonville took the ball and started marching down the field. Unfortunately, they turned the ball over on an interception that proved to be very costly for the Maroons. The Owensboro Red Devils proceeded to take the ball down to the Madisonville 15 yard line. With time running out, the Red Devils scored on a field goal winning the game 24 to 22.
The Maroons led in total offense with 339 yards to Owesboro’s 245 total yards of offense. Madisonville had 14 first downs to 9 first downs by Owensboro. Leading the way in rushing for Madisonville was Trey Carr with 84 yards followed by Cameron Tandy with 61 yards, Combs with 29 yards and Johnson with 9 yards.
